With all the excitement and attention surrounding the re-opening of Okehampton station the Devon and Cornwall Rail Partnership (DCRP) working with Mayes Creative (MC), wanted to ensure communities in Okehampton and Crediton were engaged with the railway in as broad a way as possible across all age groups, abilities and interests.

Over a period of 6 months DCRP and MC engaged groups to discover what the re-opening meant to them, the results of which were showcased in a celebration day at Okehampton station called Destination Dartmoor.

Primary school children produced artwork which was used on paper bags for the shops at the new station.

Pupils from Okehampton College led an oral history project capturing the memories of ex railway workers which was then on show in the museum for the rest of the year.

Turning Tides in Crediton promoted event day by producing dried flower buttonholes which were handed out to passengers at Exeter Central.

The event day attracted over 250 people to the station who could take part in various free events including guided walks, interactive music and free art on the train as well as enjoying the newly opened buffet and Dartmoor National Park visitor centre.
