This year sees the national Rail 200 events, celebrating 200 years of the modern railway, and 100 years of Penmere station in Falmouth.

Penmere station opened as Penmere Platform on 1st July 1925.  Until then, Falmouth only had one station – this today is Falmouth Docks.  For more than 30 years, a local volunteer group, the Friends of Penmere Station, has helped look after the station.

To mark both Rail 200 and the station’s centenary, and by kind agreement of GWR, the Friends are holding a 100th Birthday Gala in the station car park on Saturday 26th July between 10 AM and 5 PM.

On display will be several vintage vehicles including two steam traction engines and two vintage cars, a 1913 Austin 10/12 and a 1934 BSA 10HP Saloon.

There will be various stands including from The Falmouth Mission for Seafarers and the Helston Railway, plus the Friends will have an information and sales stand of their own.

Tea, coffee and cake will be available and there will be a real ale and cider stall run by Skinners Brewery.

The station car park will be closed that Saturday to allow for the Gala.

Normal train services will run – there’s a train every half an hour between Truro, Penryn, Penmere and Falmouth Docks on the Maritime Line.
